I did a 1923 duplex in Baltimore City today. In the yard was a gas cover that I have not seen before. What is the number 4 ....for?

That's the 4th gas service placed in use in the entire city. It's historically significant!

Because of that, though, it's really dangerous. In fact, it's old as hell, and you should advise your clients of that fact. *

*Just kidding. I have no idea what it means.

Maybe something to do with it being a 'flammable' product?

I'm doing some searching and seem to come up with "4" noting that in some old, old safety placarding, etc., etc..
