gtblum Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Haven't run into this before. Is this connection Ok, or does it need to have a weather head? 1975 Click to Enlarge 53.21 KB Click to Enlarge 69.83 KB
Ben H Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Not real sure, but I'd say it needs a head. Couldn't water just pour right in?
gtblum Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 Not real sure, but I'd say it needs a head. Couldn't water just pour right in? It's gooped up with sealant. I did find this, http://www.gmenergy.com/Builders/ResSer ... NoMast.pdf but......
ejager Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Given that a weatherhead goes on top of a mast... I am not sure what good it would do![:-dev3]

Ben H Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Does it have that "water tight connector for entrance cable" by the meter? You and I both know that goop will fail. I'd call for a weatherhead to be installed. I doubt any one would argrue with you.
gtblum Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 I'd call for a weatherhead to be installed. I doubt any one would argrue with you. I would agree as long as it didn't become a sticking point with no documentation to back my call. That could be a very expensive fix. I'm not comfortable with calling it wrong without something in black and white. I'll keep digging. I'll find it.
Bill Kibbel Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 I believe the NEC requires a "service head" with one exception. The exception is that the SE cable can be formed into a "gooseneck" and the SEC jacket be sealed with weather-resistant thermoplastic tape. The picture in the original post is not a gooseneck. I can scan a diagram I have of one, if you'd like.

[] OK, now we can pick YOUR place apart. [] You've got a bare neutral going into your weatherhead. Doesn't that need to be an insulated cable? Also, I see you hate painting as much as I do.

They're all like that around here. Also, I see you hate painting as much as I do. That was supposed to happen a few weeks ago. Painted houses are over rated. But probably still a smartass....when I am not being a dumbass. I make my share of smartass remarks around here too. Just so ya know, I was laughing when I wrote that.

That pic shows Type SE cable. The neutral is bare. no issues.
