Ben H Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Maybe I'm crazy, but doesn't it seem....odd that the builder would put the main light/fan switch for the master bath on a wall 2ft from the door??? Not to mention that the switch is not even located inthe room itself. Not a 3 way. What could be said from a HI point of few? Anyone got a code site that would call this "wrong?" Tom Raymond Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 He put the switch right next to the door on the far side of the room. Leads me to think there is an obstacle in the wall cavity, like a structural column, duct work, or plumbing stack, that made him place it like that. Or it was a handy homeowner project. Tom
Ben H Posted June 16, 2010 Author Report Posted June 16, 2010 Brand new house, folks haven't closed on it yet. I was thinking they changed the door placement after the rough in on electrical was done. Just seems damn sloppy to me.
Marc Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Just a crappy install. Maybe the door location got changed on punch out. On the other hand, that photo looks like the latest of the 'Mike Lamb' series of photos. Marc
AHI in AR Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Is that a pocket door? if so, they couldn't put it right next to the jamb on that side because the door wouldn't slide in the wall. Of course, they could have put it adjacent to the trim on the other side. (to the right in the pic)
Matt Fellman Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 The last I heard of this, switch placement was largely undefined by the code. I believe the terminology is vague at best. I think it falls under the catagory of the code can't address stupid.
ejager Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 [br I think it falls under the catagory of the code can't address stupid. I thought the whole reason we had code was to address stupid![:-tong2]
esch Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Is it a load bearing wall? Is there a beam resting on top of the wall at that particular point? could be 5-10 2x4's bolted together there. I re-did my "wifes" kitchen/dining and her switches are about a foot and a half from the door way, we're used to it now but there were a bunch of 2xs there from an interesting framing detail over the stairwell.
