Robert Jones Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 This home had to many items to really post about here, but, here are 2 of the better ones. Speaker wire used to run the exterior motion sensor lights(jumped) from a garage outlet. Bubble wrap used as crawl space vapor barrier. Of course this inspection was described to me as "a nice, clean one for you Rob", I think that is the kiss of death. Click to Enlarge 40.38 KB Click to Enlarge 40.92 KB Click to Enlarge 53.48 KB
Terence McCann Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Although bubble wrap is certainly unconventional as insulation I wouldn't write it off entirely. I've never given it much thought before your post but I must say that it has piqued my curiosity. You don't breath in any nasty $hit and air is a good insulator. I'd need one of those folks with the pocket protectors. EDIT: From a quick Google search: Bubble wrap has an R-value of about 2. Still an interesting subject.
Robert Jones Posted June 13, 2010 Author Report Posted June 13, 2010 Well considering it is not being used an insulation but as a vapor barrier, I guess plastic is plastic right? I was thinking maybe it was a cheap way to scare off rats since they were prevelant in this crawl as well;) I will say this, it was comfortable, and noisy!
gtblum Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 I will say this, it was comfortable, and noisy! Hope you don't get a bill from the homeowner for the damage.[]
Marc Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Reminds me of bubble wrap syndrome. Can't stop popping the bubbles. You weren't tempted, Robert? Marc
Brandon Whitmore Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Bubble wrap has an R-value of about 2. I've heard of people sticking bubble wrap to single paned windows for the added energy efficiency.
mthomas1 Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 1) The bubbles go flat after a while. 2) Flammable w/ toxic out-gassing.
Terence McCann Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 1) The bubbles go flat after a while. Sounds like my stock portfolio.
Nolan Kienitz Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Well, let's see now. I have a portfolio, but "no" stock. []
Brandon Whitmore Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 2) Flammable w/ toxic out-gassing. As is about everything else placed in a home, during and after construction.
