Phillip Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 While in the attic I took the temp of the metal ductwork and the return flex ductwork. The house only has ridge vents installed and its warm up in the attic. Click to Enlarge 41.12 KB Click to Enlarge 62.23 KB
Marc Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 It was likely hotter than that....the emissivity of galvanized sheet metal is low. Typical emissivity values. Scroll down to 'Steel Galvanized New'. Marc
David Meiland Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Every user of an infrared tool like that needs to understand emissivity. If you are using one, keep a roll of Scotch 33 electrician's tape with it, and put a piece of tape on the metal you want to measure. Assuming the emissivity setting of the tool is around .95, you should be fairly close.
Phillip Posted June 11, 2010 Author Report Posted June 11, 2010 The temps where shot just for me. In yesterday after noon inspection the ductwork was only 108. This house had better ventilation then the first house.
