Darren Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Can someone settle a dispute with code references? Can UF type cable be used from the exterior mounted A/C disconnect to the compressor or must it be 'seal-tite'? thanks
Jim Katen Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Can someone settle a dispute with code references? Can UF type cable be used from the exterior mounted A/C disconnect to the compressor or must it be 'seal-tite'? UF cable can be exposed outdoors if it's identified as "sunlight resistant" but it has to be protected from physical damage. 340.12(10) This pretty much means that it has to closely follow the surface of the building or of running boards. It also has to be secured within 12" of the point where it enters the AC cabinet and the AC disconnect. If you can figure out how to satisfy those conditions, then I guess it's ok to use it. Or you could put it in conduit. - Jim Katen, Oregon
