gsozz Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Hi all, I reciently found this in a house built in 1955 and didnt know how to call it out. As you can see the watts regulator is positioned about 8-10 inches above the water heater. Is there anything wrong with this picture? Thanks for thte feedback, Greg MVP Home Inspections Houston Download Attachment: IMG_0390.JPG 118.86 KB
Richard Moore Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Just like a reglar TPR, the sensing element should be immersed in the top 6" of water in the TANK. http://www.wattsreg.com/pdf/IS-210-5.pdf or http://www.wattsreg.com/pdf/ES-210-5.pdf So, yes, it's wrong. Funky draft hood...how old was the heater?
Bruce Thomas Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Those old TPR valves and tanks are an accident waiting to happen. Call it out of date and does not meet current standards. In addition the inside is probably so coated with minerals that it uses 3 times the gas to heat the water. Bruce
