I'd just tell them to replace it with one that is enclosed.

Oh dammit, I wish I had my pictures on this machine. I did a house where every luminare in the basement (there were almost a dozen of them) had foil pie tins nicely fitted into the groove for reflectors. I chuckle every time I think of it.
