no J channel at roof line

This is the second townhome community in my area that I discovered the builders did not use J channel at the roof lines.

Are they trying to save money or is it they don't know what the're doing?

One of the other units in the community has already lost some of its siding.

I also called out the shingles overhanging the eaves too much.
