Jerry Simon Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 This has been asked before, but I forgets... What is this thing on the countertop in front of the kitchen sink? It has a tube that runs to the trap beneath the sink. Click to Enlarge 31.4 KB
Terence McCann Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Is that an air gap for the dishwasher or perhaps some sort of vent for the drain?
hspinnler Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 air gap in a non-traditional location? sometimes, there's a pressure switch for a disposer, but it's usually in the front of the cabinet
charlieb Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Control for the Trap? Lovely place for it no matter what it is.
Jim Katen Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 This has been asked before, but I forgets... What is this thing on the countertop in front of the kitchen sink? It has a tube that runs to the trap beneath the sink. What Charlie said. It's a control for the stopper. Turn it one way, and the water flows out of the sink. Turn it the other way, and the water stays in the sink. That way you don't have to reach down into the yucky sink water to pull the stopper. - Jim Katen, Oregon
Terence McCann Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Lovely place for it no matter what it is. True.
Scottpat Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Whatever it is, why in the world would you stick a hunk of plastic in the middle of a few thousand dollars of granite!
Ben H Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Whatever it is, why in the world would you stick a hunk of plastic in the middle of a few thousand dollars of granite! That is the real question. [:-crazy]
Bill Kibbel Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Kohler makes one. I've seen a few. They all had the valve assembly directly below the strainer cup. Are you sure the cable you saw went to the trap?
Jim Katen Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Whatever it is, why in the world would you stick a hunk of plastic in the middle of a few thousand dollars of granite! Could be that's where the customer wanted it. - Jim Katen, Oregon
hausdok Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Probably something like these: http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/ ... d_num=8817 http://www.designerhardware.com/Franke_ ... k-900p.htm OT - OF!!! M.
Tom Raymond Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 My guess is that it was placed at the front of the sink because someone very short or in a wheelchair uses that sink and shares it with someone too tall to be comfortable with lower more accessible counters. Accessible cabinetry has come a long way, but it is still not the most stylish stuff out there, and the best accessible design takes all of the occupants' needs into consideration. Tom
Steven Hockstein Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Maybe that is the stock control hardware and the manufacturer offers control knob and trim hardware upragdes that compliments the faucet and soap pump finishes.
Acorn Home Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Probably something like these: http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/ ... d_num=8817 M. For List price*: $196.70 and up she can stick her hands in the sink for all I care... []
