hoosier inspector Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 What would be the proper name used to describe these "fake chimneys" There are many of them in this area. All they seem to do is prohibit a good inspection of the flue. None that I've seen had the original furnace or flue. I guess keeping it saves on patching the roof.[?] Click to Enlarge 36.47 KB Click to Enlarge 56.09 KB Click to Enlarge 76.24 KB

Jim Katen Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 What would be the proper name used to describe these "fake chimneys" I call them steel chases. - Jim Katen, Oregon
Rob Amaral Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 We have those up here in MA. I call them metal chases...
charlieb Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 I find them in some 70's tract homes. I also refer to them as a metal chase; just as I refer to the 90's version as an EIFS clad chase that shields the fireplace vent.
Jack Ahern Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Took one off of my 1960s "new home". Had a B vent going up through it. Metal cap. Rusted-leaky-looked like s**t. New boiler-new roof awesome! Cold and slow up heah![:-banghea
msteger Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 We have those up here in MA. I call them metal chases... Same thing I call them here in PA. I only see them on a few mobile/manufactured homes.
