Jeff Beck Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Yesterday's inspection: Two York AC systems with the serial numbers: W0F5276187 and WOE5104808 The "F" would indicate the year of manufacture, which would be 1997. The "E" would indicate year of manufacture of 1996. The house was built in 2005 and the units look fairly new. Am I ready the serial number wrong? Thanks, Jeff Beck Foresight Inspection Service LLC
AHI in AR Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Based on the chart that I have, York changed their coding system in late 2004. The 2nd and 4th digits indicate year of manufacture; the 3rd digit is month. Therefore, your units were made in 2005. One in May and one in June.

Just chiming in... that system York uses now sounds so dumb. Why not just use a letter for the plant and the two digits together for the year? Sounds like someone was just trying to come up with a complicated method.
