Michael Carson Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I am inspecting a home on Wednesday and this is the flashing I saw between home and garage when setting up the Radon monitor. A relocation company hired an inspector to inspect the property several months ago. The garage firewall is below this area and appears it was taken down and put back with nails, various screws, etc. to investigate a problem. Click to Enlarge 56.41 KB Click to Enlarge 28.57 KB
Robert Jones Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 When you consider what these relo companies pay these "inspectors", it's no surprise. I had the same situation happen a little while back and I found a ton of stuff wrong that was missed. Just go out and do what you do, report as you normally would(of course).
Bain Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I had one of those this morning. The re-lo company's inspector's report was on the kitchen counter. Apparently the fellow didn't check out the attic or look in the closets. No mention was made about the leak around the fireplace flue-pipe. Click to Enlarge 49.01 KB Click to Enlarge 12 KB
kurt Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Pre-apology to anyone I might insult, but relo companies want the guys with poor eyesight and dull pencils. The last thing they want to know is the condition of the property; it's all done to lay off liability.
Michael Carson Posted August 31, 2009 Author Report Posted August 31, 2009 Well, completed the inspection. Home not winterized properly did not unplug the power vent for water heater now that and thermocouple is shot. On the counter was a form showing the other inspector came back to the property after his inspection and signed that all the things he found was corrected like loose shower handles, leaking thermopane windows. The shower handle was fixed by someone jamming little pieces of wood behind it, thermopane windows not fixed. His report claims that there is only a gas fireplace in the master bedroom, I guess in the last several months someone entered a vacant home built a chimney, added a fireplace in the main level den, used it and did not clean it...Nice. On top of that the owner had a "roofer" come out and say that the flashing in my first post was correct and that it would not leak. I told them to find another roofer. And finally, I am convinced that he did not even attempt to go into the attic!!! Whew, I feel better now thank you. Gotta Love It. John Dirks Jr Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Im curious about the last picture of the taped plumbing vent pipe. Would that pipe always require support at that point in the first palce?
