inspectorwill Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 This particular tankless unit is a direct vent type with a condensate line. The unit is installed in an attic space and the condensate is plumbed to the TPR valve extension. I am not a fan of PVC for TPR valve drains and I cannot locate a manual for condensate drain line specs. Nonetheless, common sense seems to suggest that plumbing a condensate to the horizontal portion of the TPR drain is improper. Sorry for the bad pic. The TPR drains to the right and the condensate is the line connecting at the left of the photo. Thanks in advance. Click to Enlarge 32.54 KB
RSpermo Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 The TPR drain line if it is going to be PVC must be CPVC. This drain must operate separately so the water heater drain cannot empty into it.
msteger Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Correct, PVC isn't rated for hot water. I see them installed all the time, however, and write them up all the time.
