Whirpool water heater age

While I realize that the first 2 digits are supposed to be the year, next 2 the week. This water heater did not look like it was only a year old. The ASHRAE was from 1999.

Rob, did it have a sealed combustion chamber or not? There's the difference between 1999 and 2008. Some T&P relief valve tags have dates on them.

Electric water heater. I did not think to look at the tag on TPR.

Some T&P relief valve tags have dates on them.

If not on the tag, the date is stamped onto the lever.

That does seem to be the overwhelming consensus (YYWW). The ANS date would likely be closer than the ASHRAE, but still a few years behind.

Maybe it was just dirty or dusty?
