Phillip Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 This switch that is on the wall close to the laundry plumbing was turn off and I turn it on to see what it turned on. Click to Enlarge 34.28 KB I looked around and could not see any light that it turn on. It turn out it controlled the power supply to the water heater which was in the store room behind the laundry. It does not look like a 240 volt switch.
msteger Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Interesting, I can't say I've ever seen a water heater on a wall switch.
Richard Moore Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 It does not look like a 240 volt switch. If not, and it's only cutting power to one conductor, that's a whole bunch more dangerous than having no switch at all.

RobC Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 You would have to remove the cover to know for sure. One of the switch in the photo is 240 volt, Can you tell the difference? Download Attachment: Picture 001 (Medium).jpg 45.06 KB We don't have electric water heater here but if we did I'd insist in having a disconnect switch nearby to service it safely or have a means of shutting it down in the event of an emergency.

RobC Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 You bet It looks and operates like the old fashion switches that we all like to recommend upgrading. The fan runs 24/7 so I upgraded to a 240volt direct current motor to save on electricity. They also come in black.
