Neal Lewis Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Download Attachment: FlooringGuys 003.jpg 957.12 KB Flooring guys have to hook up their 240 volt sanders directly to the panel box. I've seen them do some unsafe things, but the setup in the pic is a first. It seems that pulling out breakers and attaching the alligator clips directly to the busbar would be better- anything would be safer than this. Coincidentally, I just attended a CEU class on electrical safety the other night...Got the face shield on order.[]
aaronm Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 You might consider full body armour around that flooring crew!
Tom Raymond Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 The stack of red, white, & blue cans next to the panel explains it perfectly.[:-drunk] Tom
Kyle Kubs Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 Leaving the stack of cans next to a set up like that might qualify them for a Darwin award. Normally you just clip right to the main lugs or exposed hot bus. This panel apparently was a little crowded for that. I'll admit I've jumped a welder or two off the main lugs of a few panels with alligator clips but that's a little on the shaky side.
Neal Lewis Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 Pulling a couple of breakers would have made a lot more sense than this setup. I wonder what the manufacturers of the sanders recommend on how to hook them up?
Bill in Georgia Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 I hope there are no kids or even adults nearby. Just touching the screwdriver could kill someone. This sander must pull quite a bit of current judging by the arc damage on the screwdriver. I wonder if they turn both of the breakers off before making connections. One breaker looks like the main breaker for the panel. What about back feed. Take one screwdriver out and it is probably still energized. Unbelievable!
