coach61 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 on new three bedroom, 2000 sf home. What size wire should I use for about a 200 foot drop that has to be underground?
hausdok Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Depends on service requirements for the house, doesn't it? Did you swag an estimate of what it needs? I usually don't concern myself too much with that. The power company is responsible for sizing that and they seem to almost universally use 2/0 copper around here and it seems to work fine for everything. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
coach61 Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Thanks Mike Called the electic company and they recommended 4/0 aluminum. Now all I need to do is dig the trench and lay it in.
JARD Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Check your local elecctrical code. But I think it has to be 18 inches below grade.
hausdok Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 D'oh, Just looked at the initial post again. I'd missed the "underground" when I'd responded. I don't think I've ever seen them use 2/0 copper underground in conduit here, it's usually 4/0 aluminum - which is what they told you they're going to use. OT - OF!!! M.
