Robert Jones Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 60 yr old home with 2 layers of comp shingles installed. I pulled up to the inspection site and this is what was going on. A contractor/roofing "specialist", at least that's what his truck said, had his day helper pressure washing the shingles to remove the moss. The helper stated that the contractor had gone to the big box store to purchase a bundle of shingles so they could fix some areas. These pics are after the "repairs and cleaning". It was just the opening clue as to how the rest of the inspection was going to go. Click to Enlarge 114.26 KB Click to Enlarge 135.9 KB Click to Enlarge 74.01 KB Click to Enlarge 67.35 KB
AHI in AR Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 I love folks like that. After all, they help keep me in business.
Erby Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Here's another obvious one. I knew it was time for a new "insurance supplied" roof right after I stood up off the ladder. Well, unless the seller already spent the insurance check! Click to Enlarge 73.54 KB Click to Enlarge 71.22 KB -
Brandon Whitmore Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Erby, Is that hail damage? Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but we don't get hail big enough to damage a roof in my parts (not that I've seen).

I responded that I wished they'd issue us home inspectors hunting licenses every fall and allow us to bag a 2-head maximum of guys pressure-washing roofs. She chuckled until I said the only downside to it would be the work involved with dragging the carcass out to the curb, pulling off a boot and then yellow tagging a toe for pickup by the local refuse company. I guess she thought I was serious 'cuz she got really, really quiet after that. Once again, O'Handley fails to be politically astute. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike

I may have to quit writing up that I think improperly installed flashing at windows is the cause of leaking windows. My neighbor hired some painting contractors to clean and paint his house. I was in my back yard this weekend watching them pressure wash from about 6" away, and they were aiming the pressure washer upwards........
Michael Carson Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Here is one where the owner said the roof does not leak and the flashing is prevent ice damming. [:-censore Click to Enlarge 67.15 KB
