Chris Bernhardt Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 What's the name of this type of grey zip looking cable? It was strippable like zip cord except it had solid conductors. Click to Enlarge 41.23 KB Chris, Oregon
Chris Bernhardt Posted April 11, 2009 Author Report Posted April 11, 2009 Romex has separately insulated conductors with a jacket over them. With this cable there is no jacket, just the thermoplastic molded right onto the solid conductors. Chris, Oregon
SWagar Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 It looks like an appliance connector (cable) or extension cord.
Jim Katen Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 It looks like an appliance connector (cable) or extension cord. It certainly does. But I've never seen one with solid conductors. The whole point of appliance cordsets is that they're flexible. I don't know what it is. - Jim Katen, Oregon
SWagar Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 Jim, Where did you see soild conductors? I see some soild wire but I'm not so sure it is the same as the gray conductor.
hausdok Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 You can't see them; Chris explained in the initial post that these have solid conductors. OT - OF!!! M.
Jim Port Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Type UF cable typically has solid conductors with a gray covering. It is rated for use outdoors and underground.
Jim Katen Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Memory is odd. I don't remember having seen cable like that before you posted the picture, though clearly I must have. In the last week, now that it's on my mind, I've seen it on two inspections. It is, as Jim & Craig said, a type of UF cable. - Jim Katen, Oregon
hausdok Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Hi, Yeah, UF; I had it on an inspection Sunday. OT - OF!!! M.
