kccandfc Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Attached is picture of a charred dialectic union. I noted carbon debris and rusting on top of water heater and attributed this back drafting. Is the charring a sign of back-draft or another issue? Click to Enlarge 27.34 KB Click to Enlarge 52.38 KB
kurt Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 That be backdraftin', mate. It's not "charring"; charring is reducing something to carbon or charcoal through incomplete combustion. That's just plain old rust and corrosion, caused by the corrosive moisture (I think it's the sulfur dioxide) in the combustion gas.
SonOfSwamp Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Just to keep things tidy and sensible: Dialectic. 1. of, pertaining to, or of the nature of logical argumentation. Dielectric. 1. a nonconducting substance; insulator. Because discriminating customers expect us to know the difference between logic and insulation, WJ
Erby Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Kinda nice of someone to politely keep things tidy and sensible.
MTL_Inspet_Man Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Another good reason why they don't allow pex to connect directly to the DHWH...........lol
kccandfc Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 Thanks Gentlemmen for all your help; technical and spelling.
