Jeff Beck Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 200 amp meter and base SEC is aluminum, appears to be 2/0, 150 amps? Square D panel that appears to be the main, rated for 100 amps Main breaker appears to be 70 amps. See the pictures. Since the main breaker is the lowest rated component, can this actually be rated at 70 amps? Click to Enlarge 120.83 KB Click to Enlarge 46.74 KB Sorry about the blurry pic, the panel was stuffed in a corner of a basement bathroom and that's the closest that I could get to it. Thanks, Jeff Beck Foresight Inspection Service LLC PS, I know about the double tap.
hausdok Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 I dunno, It looks like an old #2 rag-wrapped tin-coated copper SEC rated for 125 amps. OT - OF!!! M.
Bill Kibbel Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 If the 70 Amp main is the lowest rated component, then yes - it is currently a 70 Amp service.
Richard Moore Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 The blurry photo does seem to say 70 on the toggle, but has anyone seen a double width 70-amp breaker like that before?
Jim Katen Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 The blurry photo does seem to say 70 on the toggle, but has anyone seen a double width 70-amp breaker like that before? I think it's just a regular 70-amp two-pole breaker with some sort of shroud around it. Looks a bit odd, but it's not something that I'd dwell on. - Jim Katen, Oregon
John Dirks Jr Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 It would be real easy to upgrade to the level of the SEC by just changing the main breaker. It's not a big deal but I would report on it.
SWagar Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 I'm with Mike, the SEC looks like tin coated copper not aluminum. Does any one know when was aluminum SEC was first used generally speaking. And was there ever any rag covered aluminum SEC.
