A master eletrician lives in this house and insists this is ok... 100amp Square D, taps off top lugs feed single breaker sub below.. His rationale he shoved down my throat was that 1. Its ok cuz its a Square D 2. The feed has to come from somewhere :D (haha that makes me LOL)

Your thoughts?

He should be ashamed of himself for defending such work.

So...some Square-D breakers are designed to be double-tapped, therefore you can tap the main lugs like that? Great logic! Is that also his reasoning for the multi-tapped neutrals?

Jodi, hopefully there's a higher designation than "Master" for electricians in your area.

Y'know, it really comes down to emotional maturity. The pig-headed ones draw their lines and dare you to prove them wrong. Someone with more sense would admit he was in a hurry the day the sub-panel was installed, and he just never got around to correcting it.

Ya, ok.

Tell him to put it in writing with his name and State license # on it. If he's enough of a dim whit to do it, then bring it and the pictures to the State licensing board.

Could send it all to Square D also, just for shits & giggles.

Never OK to double lug that way. Essentially those conductors have no adequate OCPD, and would have to melt and catch fire to break the circuit, if an overload occured. It is just wrong, wrong , wrong......
