willijimon Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Hey guys. Quick electrical question. Running a Scag Tiger with the 29 horse Kaw DFI LC. At idle it is neutral on the ammeter but when you kick on the deck and load the system it is discharging (-5). Before I do lots of looking around on it, has anyone had this problem before on their mower and what was the solution. I'd liked to get this fixed and back in the field quickly. Thanks for your help.
Chad Fabry Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 It's not home inspector related but the electric clutch for a 25-30HP engine draws about 12 amps. The alternators on small engines don't do much until they're running at least 1,800 rpm and usually are good for only 22 amps @ 3,600 RPM. In short, it's normal to discharge at idle speeds ~800 rpm w/ electrical loads. Why would you have the deck engaged @ idle speeds anyways?
johnnyb14 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Sounds like the alternator isn't producing for some reason. An electric PTO will draw about that much current.
