KY Ted Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Anyone had experience inspecting a "modular home" I guess aka like rednecks say a "trailer house"? Looking on info on construction, whats its made of joists etc. Also what to look for, etc. Thanks Ted
hausdok Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Hi Ted, If you go through the archives here, you'll find that we've discussed these before. Er, if I may, please do not call them "modular" homes, because they are anything but. The correct term is "manufactured" home. A modular home is one built completely to all applicable current codes off-site in a factory and then brought to the site on trucks in the form of boxes (modules) that are lifted off the truck and assembled onto a full foundation on-site. The difference between modulars and manufactured homes is as great as the difference between stick built and manufactured. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
crusty Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 In most jurisdictions Federal specs (HUD) and state specific regulatios other than local building codes govern and I think ASHI SOP's are the same as ours and make a distinction.
hausdok Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Oh Yeah, I forgot. Go to 'resources' above and then look in the file library. We've got a bunch of HUD documents there about "manufactured" homes. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
