gtblum Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 First pic shows the main line in. The second shows the meters for the home and an inlaw apt. The line before the meter feeds a giant commercial type garage below the home. You motor heads would love this. Air lines, a lift, overhead door like a service dept, ect. SWagar Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I noticed the meters inside this building, was there another meter in the Garage? The solder on the pipes looks to be all about the same vintage. That valve is turned off, any idea where the pipe went?
Ken Meyer Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Is there a meter out by the street, or are all the meters in your area inside? If they are inside, someone has to come in to read them, and they would see an unmetered connection. Could it be that the 2 meters are there for the homeowner to keep track of water use for the apartment and the home separately?
SWagar Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I think those meters can be electronically read from the outside of the building. I had one that looked just like that in my New England home years ago.
gtblum Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 There are no outside meters. I hate to admit this but, I'm not even sure how I'm charged. my meter is inside like these and nobody shows up here to read it. The utilitys are read by drive by (sensor on the house) but, I don't know about the water. Guess I'd better call them LOL.
Brandon Whitmore Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 If there are no other meters upstream, then the water is free to the shop and free (stolen) to the hose bib at the end of the line as shown in the pic.
gtblum Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 Just got off the phone with the water utility. They use electronic sensors as well and they service that property. Looks like there's a problem. Now to report it to my client without starting a war with the home owner. HMM
Les Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Gary, I think that first line with the valve actually is returning the unused water from the neighbors. This way the neighbor's unused water can be used by the subject property, metered and charged for. This configuration would provide even and constant flow to all devices, within the neighborhood, and prevent sudden surges in the pressure. i wonder how long this will take?
gtblum Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 Les, That sounds like a fair trade to me since the driveway to that overhead runs around the neighbors house and through his property. Both once owned by the same guy.
