bulkhead stairwell-railings and guardrails

In the picture you see an example of a hazard. There is no guard rail on top and no handrail for the steps. I am searching for a picture that would show what installed railings and guard rails should like in a similar situation.

If you can post pictures that can show what it should be like, please do.

I don't have a photo handy of what you are looking for. While photo 36 in the IRC Sec. 312 below is an interior picture, it still applies to the situation you describe. There should be a hand rail inside that stairway, too.

Something else missing from your photo is snow.

Use your words John, It's not that hard to describe railings. IMO, you are asking for trouble putting in pictures of other homes with railings you assume are correct.

I think Joe photochopped that picture! I have never seen a stair well like that with a guard rail, let alone two hand rails, a drain, and an illuminated exit! []
