Took this picture from a high viewpoint over a medieval-aged town on the Italian Riviera.

Slate roofs are tipico, and for some reason, (I guess to keep the wind from lifting the edges) most roofs had these select round rocks around the perimeter, set in beds of mortar.

Very picturesque.
