Brad Manor Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Today's inspection had an old gravity furnace - something which I almost never see. I know somebody'll probably tear me a new one for not knowing, but what the heck is that box on the vent? At first I assumed it was some sort of barometric damper, but when I looked inside it seemed more like some sort of Willy Loman-esque contraption designed to spill flue gases into the home. Alright, lemme have it..... -Brad (gravity furnaces - one more thing I missed out on being born in the 70s) Image Insert: 45.28 KB Image Insert: 59.64 KB
Bill Kibbel Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 It's intended to do the same thing as this: The flue conn. has gotta be too long. The chicken wire was added to stop the critters from coming in the house. They just die in the chimney or flue conn. instead.
AHI in AR Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Brad-- Willy Loman-esque? As in Death Of a Salesman ? Do you perhaps mean Rube Goldberg-esque?
Brad Manor Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 Nope - Willy Loman, as in huffing flue gases in an attempt to speed up the inevitable . -Brad
AHI in AR Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Gotcha. My bad. I've never seen anything like that.
