randynavarro Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 It's a bit mysterious to me as I can read the numbers and letters (I think) but it doesn't line up with any coding I'm familiar with Image Insert: 145.17 KB The tank looks too new to be 1979, but may be. . . msteger Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 My 1st guess would have been 1979 since I see "M9 79...", but I don't think they were using EnergyGuide stickers then. What is the manufacturer?
hausdok Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 M is the month of December - December 1997. OT - OF!!! M.

So are you saying the manufacturer wrote the date backwards? Looks like M9 79 to me. If it is a Bradford White, M would be 1995, but I am guessing it's not and is a 1979.
Chad Fabry Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 "The water heater is at least 11 years old. Around here they last 8- 10 years. You should have one standing by to replace this one when it fails. "
randynavarro Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 This is a 203k renovation inspection so instead of "consulting" the client, I actually have the honor of telling him what needs to happen. I'll call for replacement.
Erby Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 Look at the second picture. It was installed by Advantage Water Heaters on 6/09/1998. Doubt it set on the shelf for 20 years before being installed. I'd go with Mike's M97 date. If that doesn't get you then call them. randynavarro Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 Wow Erby. How'd can you see the sticker that close?
Erby Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 Internet Explorer "Change Zoom Level" at bottom right - magnify 400% On a 203K, I'd go with "Replace it".
