voight Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Yesterday I inspected a new home that had a 320 amp meter that was feeding 2 separate 200 amp panels. Does this meter need to be 400 amps and if yes, does anyone know the code number for a reference? This builder requires codes numbers to be listed for every defect found. Dave Voight Honest Home Inspections No. It's fine. A class 320 meter is rated at 320 continuous amps (or 80% of 400). The setup you describe is correct. Besides, the house is very, very unlikely to every actually draw 320 amps, let alone 400. - Jim Katen, Oregon
