Fuse Box /Breaker Box

Later this week I will be going on in inspection to a home that I already know has a situation I am not familar with. The older part of the home has the old fuse panels, main power for the home and lights. The furnace/AC, hot water heater, W/D are all on a new breaker box. My question is this..can u use both within the same house?

Sorry no photos yet...if needed I can have some here Thursday night. thanks for any input.

I've seen fuses and circuit breakers both protecting the same home, so there isn't an issue specifically with that. As long as these systems are installed properly, there isn't an issue.

BTW.. its a "water heater", not a "hot water heater".

C'mon Matt, aren't you heating water that is already hot?

I gotta agree with Mr Ghent on the newbie aspect. That was my first thought, but I still remember when I was new.

That set up is fine. Just make sure that there's a 4 wire feeding this box and the fuses aren't oversized (30 amp fuse on #14 wire). If they made this panel 120 volts only and put a jumper from one hot to the other, this is a no no also because there's a possiblity of OL the neutral.
