Phillip Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 When were guardrails required on porches and steps? And where there any time that the heights different than todays standard? I know that the size of the opening in the graudrails has changed. A lot of the older homes do not have them and I always recommend to by clients that they add them for their safety. But I would like to know when guardrails came to be required. This is a 1970 home. Image Insert: 158.33 KB
jon_ran Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Doesn't matter when they were required by code. They should be installed now to improve safety when navigating these steps. What was the height of those risers, they look awfully short. What's up with the vents under the porch slab?
Phillip Posted June 3, 2008 Author Report Posted June 3, 2008 it is open under the slab so it part of the ventilation for the crawlspace.
