Jerry Simon Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Service equipment is a 100-amp fuse block main disconnect. Same uses/protects #2 aluminum to feed a 200-ampere breaker-panel. Aside from potentially blowing the main fuses if the panel is over-loaded, any other problems?
Richard Moore Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Not the expert here but... Aside from the unknown conditions of the older fuse panel and wiring, none that I can think of. Even if the 200-amp panel has a 200-amp main breaker, it's just acting as a big on/off switch with the OCP provided by the fuses. I guess I'd just make sure the clients understand that they do NOT have a 200-amp service. I'd probably also tell them that it would be relatively simple to upgrade to 200-amps if they wished to do so at a later date.
