inspect4u Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Hey guys, Has anyone ever seen this before? It was the first for me. It is two 50 gal water heaters hooked in series, cold coming into one and sending hot out to the other one and the other one feeding the house. Looks like a waste of money to me, cost of running two water heaters to basically get a 100 gal capacity. Mike M Image Insert: 39.38 KB
Brandon Whitmore Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Saw one 3 days ago... see them every so often around here. I am not aware of any actual problems with the installation.
hausdok Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Hi, Whether they are hooked up in series or in parallel depends on what you intend to use them for. Click here for information straight from the Rheem/Ruud horse's mouth. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
kurt Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I see them in series and parallel. Tried both ways. Each way has it's supporters and detractors. Each side believes fervently that the "other" way is horribly wrong. From what I've seen, and I've seen them a fair amount, I don't think it makes all that big a difference whether it's series of parallel.
inspector57 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Has anyone ever seen this before? It was the first for me. Standard fare here in the big city on larger homes, most of them stuck up in the attic. I kind of prefer the series route, but I can see the advantage of the parallel method if equipped with isolator valves.
Bruce King Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 I have two electric ones in series. The first one stays off unless we have company. It serves as a storage tank when off that gains some heat from the garage to warm up the cold well water, especially in the summer. I see no use for parallel operation, cold water entering both tanks as the hot is used makes no sense at all for residential.
