Neal Lewis Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 What would you call the name of this roof? I refer to it as a clipped gable, but I've also read the name jerkinhead as a description... Image Insert: 586.38 KB
kurt Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Clipped gable or hipped gable. Jerkinhead is the correct name, but it's so rarely used (like, never). I like the eyebrow dormer.
fqp25 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Found this looking into jerkinhead roofing. jerkinhead/clipped gable Frank
Jerry Simon Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I have a memory trick to remember jerkinhead...I just picture a guy sitting on the roof while.....while....uhmm - nevermind.
Bill Kibbel Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Clipped gable is the correct name for the style of the roof. Jerkinhead is the name of the little triangle piece above the gable ends.
Jim Baird Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 I've heard the dogears called Dutch hips with an eyebrow dormer in the middle. Love the landscaping.
Jim Katen Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 Originally posted by Jim Baird I've heard the dogears called Dutch hips with an eyebrow dormer in the middle. Love the landscaping. I think of a Dutch hip as a hip roof with a little bitty gable sticking up out of it. Kind of the opposite of clipped gable. - Jim Katen, Oregon
