NJinspector Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Inspected a 122 year old home in southern jersey. This is still a baby for some of you (Kibbel), but its the oldest I have seen yet. Anyone know what this pipe is used for? Image Insert: 176.2 KB Image Insert: 182.2 KB. thanks
Inspectorjoe Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 From the size and location, it looks like an abandoned underground drain that a downspout used to discharge into.
Les Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 pretty common in Michigan. Discharge pipe to receive gutter run-off. We usually see the bell end.

Most of them have been disconnected from the city sewer since the town/city doesn't want to pay to treat clean water.
fqp25 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I've seen them a lot around older homes, usually connected to an outside catch basin. Frank
RickSab Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Drain is my bet. They are all over here. Most towns don't want you to use them anymore. Rick
