Darren Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 The A/C support looks questionable. How (or better yet, is) the 2x's secured to the roof? Usually some type of dunnage is installed and flashed over then the A/C mounted to the dunnage NO?
BornaRoofer Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 No thats the standard way to set air units. Usually 4x4's set on pads. The weight of the unit holds it down. In hurricane areas it may be different though.
tbird Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 That ain't no stinkin A/C. That's a evaporative (swamp) cooler my friend. They are not very heavy.

Whatever it is its been there awhile by the looks of the rusting and it hasn't blown off yet. Whats a swamp cooler do? Condition the air?
tbird Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Click http://opalcat.com/Information/swamp-coolers for swamp cooler explanation. They cool by evaporation. Ex: When you get out of the shower, you feel cold due to the evaporation of the water. Of course, these only work good in dry climates due to the fact that they add humidity to the air.

The air off of them feels good here in the deep south. I have installed around 200 of them in Phifer wire and it make a different inside the plant
Phillip Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 I would of installed it on Some 4x4s and fasten the framing to them The metal under the wood is to protect the roofing. That set up does not let you fasten it to the roof. There is a way to fasten it to the roof if it is needed. Unless you have a lot of high wind its not going to blow of. The 5 foot x 5 foot coolers took 4 of us to toke them and then after you get water in it its not moving much. I also made frames for them to set it out of 3"x 3"x 1/4" angle.
Chad Fabry Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 What the heck does "dunnage" mean as it relates to the construction trades?
Darren Posted March 24, 2008 Author Report Posted March 24, 2008 Dunnage is a 'curb', usually pre-fab that is secured to the decking. The roof or some type of flashing is installed over it. The mechanical units are then attached to the dunnage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunnage
BornaRoofer Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Here we call them sleepers or just curbs.
