Asbestos in rockwool insulation?

They coulda done worse than a bit of rock wool if it really is rock wool.

Even asbestos isn't too bad if it's soaked in syrup. []

I got a kick out of this dog's breakfast of insulation. Somebody thought stirring it with a stick would make it better? I think it needs some syrup.

oh just toss in a few magnets and stir it around for awhile and I sure you'll be fine - just don't eat the magnets, they may be hazardous to your health. Of course you could always just label it 99% pure maple syrup 1% metal fibers and let the consumer decide.

Hi All,

First post here, hoping for some thoughts.

Ive attached a pic of the insulation in our 1950's Sydney, Australia home.

Any thoughts from the pic of what it might be?

Asbestos inspector is coming next week to do a report on the house and take some samples, but was hoping for some possible peace of mind before then.

Fiberglass matted down by rodents and full of mouse turds, fiberglass, fiberglass, mold, drywall crack from....something, mold.

What'd your inspector say about the crack and the mold?

Ha this has stressed me out a little as you might have suspected.

You believe that felt type pipe lagging is not asbestos?

That doesn't really bother me as it is under the house and not disturbed.

My only concern is the roof insulation, and if any is getting in to the house is it a concern to health, asbestos or not.

Inspector comes next week.

The roof area is used for storage. So the main beams of the house have (mostly) wooden boards running across the beams, and boxes of 'stuff' are sitting on top. Its possible the board has collapsed after all these years and so something has put weight on the board. Or its just an old house, which is slowly shifting down the hill and some cracks appear from time to time.

The crack I sealed with glue, and then strips of paper and glue as a very temporary stop gap solution.

All advice about mold on fibro sheets will be greatly appreciated!

Take out the sheets, fix the water leak that caused the mold growth, put up a new ceiling.

I greatly doubt the yellow lagging has any asbestos, but one never knows for sure.

FTR, asbestos can be just about anywhere. It was used in thousands of products for over a century.

Yes nasty stuff. Fingers crossed the results are negative!

So all samples negative for Asbestos.

They did advise it is a SMF, which used to be or still is classified as 'possibly carcinogenic'. Good to know.
