I've been told (by Kurt and Les) that the man who invented the GFCI would travel around to trade shows, set in a kiddie pool filled with water and have people throw radios in that were pluged into his invention, the GFCI.

Earl Roberts!!! Good guy, but don't let him near your wife! One of the nice guys that was always willing to share his knowledge and experience.

Actually, the inventor was Professor Charles F Dalziel. Earl just developed it for USA and wrote books.

The guys in the photo are likely from New England.

I've seen that photo before. It's funny, but I suspect it was staged. That rig wouldn't last two minutes in there without something bad happening.

That's what I'm thinking too. They set it up to make people gasp at the photo, but didn't plug it in. It looks halfway down in the water as it sits. One good wave from somebody moving would be the end if it were for real.
