According to an article in this month's Green Building Talk Newsletter that's put out by Build Central, The California Academy of Science project is constructing one of the largest green roofs in the world. The project encompasses 2.5 acres with over 1.7 million native plants and is being called a "living roof."

The roof features seven hills that represent the seven hills of San Francisco and is supposed to provide a number of benefits including energy conservation, rainwater collection for the academy's dome planetarium, reduced low frequency noise, and natural ventilation for parts of the school's planetarium.

You can see photo's of the project here or read more about it in the Green Building Quarterly.
