CheckItOut Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 House was built in 78 and has had a new roof installed in the last few years. I noticed that the roof has no drip edge installed. Does anyone know if drip edges were not installed in the 70s? Just trying to decide if I need to point it out or not. Thanks!
kurt Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 It's been around for 70 years in various forms. Recommended, not required. I used to talk about it all the time, but for the last couple years, I only bring it up if it looks like the lack of drip edge is causing problems. Often, the lack of drip edge doesn't do anything bad. At least, that's my experience, as much as I hate to say it.
hausdok Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Depends on the manufacturer. If you know the manufacturer and series of shingle, you can go to the ICC ES reports site and look up the installation instructions. Some specifically state that a drip edge must be used. OT - OF!!! M.
