Chris Bernhardt Posted May 25, 2007 Report Posted May 25, 2007 Does a water a water heater in a tight closet, one that can't be used for storage, still have to be anchored and electrical cable protected? I see this all of the time on manufactured homes. But in that case they are behind panels. In this case I am talking about a water heater in a closet with a regular door but not one that can be used for storage. Chris, Oregon
sbrooten Posted May 25, 2007 Report Posted May 25, 2007 Chris, I don't think that any regs regarding protecting the electrical line would change because the appliance is located in a closet. As for being anchored, that is not a national requirement. It is generally (to my knowledge) only required in seismic areas and regs would be dependent on local rules. Probably the best thing to do is to check with the AHJ.
hausdok Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Anchoring is required in seismic zones 3 & 4 and I believe that Chris is in Zone 3. OT - OF!!! M.
ctgo4it Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 how about a closet in a closet. I saw a water heater (gas fired) in a closet accessed through a closet, but with a door between them. I think it's pretty dangerous and asking for trouble, but I'm curious what you would recommend
hausdok Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Hi, What was it's combustion air source. Most I see are 40,000 Btu or better. That means, unless it's getting its air from outside, it has to be installed in a space with a volume of not less than 2,000 cubic feet. OT - OF!!! M.
