Anyone know what this is?

I found it in a +/- fifty year old house. The plate merely says, "Automatic water control." The thing was wired into a 120-volt circuit beneath a kitchen sink.

I can't know for sure, Chad, but the place was only a couple of miles from downtown, so they likely have always been on a utility-supplied water service. I actually Googled different iterations of GE and the model number and didn't get any worthwhile hits.

Umm, and did I mention that I suffer severely from OCD?

I think Chad's got it. The rating for 1/3 horsepower is interesting. Maybe the pump part of it was located in the basement at one time?

This is a flow switch. It allows power to the garbage disposer only when there is water flow at the faucet.
