Robert Jones Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Inspecting a home this afternoon and the gas furnace was located in a utility closet. The current owners built some shelving(plywood) to act as a kitchen pantry that is moveable, well dragable. The "shelving" unit is approximately 1-2" from the front grill of the furnace. In order for the home owners to change the filter, the "shelving" unit must be dragged out of the way. Besides the inconvenience, do you see any issues with the combustion air. Thanks for you input.
Bill Kibbel Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Da code says clearances needed for maintenance, servicing and replacement. The tag, inside the furnace cabinet, will list all clearances required.
inspector57 Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Don't forget clearance to combustibles. I bet a box of cornflakes is combustible. Jim
