charlieb Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 We see some weird stuff out there. This was a first. The best I could come up with was the reduction in the vent and the breach of the vent system. Also added a concern for how the CSST enters the vent. I believe the line serves an island cook top. The vent terminates above the roof and is capped with 2 90's. There are no high efficiency appliances in the home. Download Attachment: a125.JPG 28.66 KB Comments please
rjw Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 How is the picture oriented?: looking up. down across? What's going on with the PEX behind the truncated 2x? Could the PVC be acting as a "conduit for the CSST?
hausdok Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 Hi, Yeah, upon first glance, that's what I thought was going on. running it through a length of PVC would be a good way to protect it from getting dinged. OT - OF!!! M.
zeb Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 If that is a conduit, would there be a problem with gas build up in the small conduit if the csst developes a leak.
charlieb Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 Sorry guys, I went to a conference that was jamb packed with info. It is acting as a conduit for the csst. My concern is it may be acting as a plumbing vent also. This is the view as I assended the pulldown stairs. Could you be more specific as to what you whant to know.
hausdok Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Hi, Personally, I think it's a great way to protect that pipe from becoming damaged by someone carelessly climbing around up there. Unless there's a prohibition against it that someone can show me, I don't think I'd be concerned about it. OT - OF!!! M.

Is the camera poited up? Down, 30 degrees, straight down? Is the drywall seam in the ceiling? I just can't figure out how the pic is oriented. FWIW, I've begun using 2 shots for many of my report pics: one wide for "orietation" and one detail.
fqp25 Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Say it is a plumbing stack; it looks like the stack has a tee, with a 45 above it, and the CSST is going into the tee. If this is the case you would have an open stack in the attic. Also where would the CSST come out at, a P-Trap???
charlieb Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 You hit my concerns exactly. I could no direction to go bu thave the builder explain the set up to the AHJ. Orientation: The shot is looking horizontal as I assended the stairs. The vent is directly infront of the stairs.
charlieb Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 If it is simply a conduit, why extend it through the roof. Or terminate it with 2 90s?
