randynavarro Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I have an online subscription to Preston's Guide but can't log on today for some reason. Can someone help with this furnace age? Download Attachment: TraneLabel.JPG 61.66 KB
rjw Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 well, I think 94, from the serial # and the fact it's got the french and english label (post NAFTA?) [on edit - opps, that was in the model # But this is still good info]: The ANSI year isn't in the pic, but is also a good way to come up with an age: I find general 1-3 years after the ANSI year.
Bill Kibbel Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 That 94 is in the model #, not serial. Trane/American Standard: 1st letter of serial # I think N = '98
hausdok Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Hi, Randy, since about 1992, Trane has put the date of manufacturer in the lower right hand corner of that label. Did you happen to look there. I don't see that portion in the photo. OT - OF!!! M.
StevenT Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Could the 383 after after the N in the serial number possibly mean March 1983?
Mark P Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Carrier Blue Book says that model was manufactured in 1997 and 1998.
hausdok Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Hi Again, Back in the early summer, I made a post wherein I posted the information I had for ages of furnaces. You'll find that post in this thread on page 2: http://www.tijonline.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2981 According to the information I'd gathered, the age of Trane furnaces is figured this way: Trane: Begins in 1971. Age is a number followed by a letter in the serial number. Example: 1C-xxxx = March 1971, 81, 91, 01 (Use common sense to distinguish one decade from the next.) Beginning around 1982 the date of manufacturer is stamped on the ID plate. I think this is wrong and I got my notes crossed up somewhere, especially about the date they began placing the date of manufacture on the label, because I don't recall seeing it on any furnaces that old. When you get back onto Preston's, maybe you can help me straighten that out Randy. OT - OF!!! M.
randynavarro Posted January 14, 2007 Author Report Posted January 14, 2007 Thanks all for the help. Still can't get online - one disadvantage of our e-age vs. just buying the book(s). I think 1998 sound sabout right. Also, I forgot to attach this pic of the evap. coil label that I also need to date - the serial # on this one has . . . 98 which lines up with age of furnace, but I still need to verify. Download Attachment: EvapCoilLabel.JPG 57.54 KB Can y'all assist once more? Mike, Got a second picture but not any better. Yes, once I get back online, I'll see what I can do to verify that information.
Bill Kibbel Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Trane/American Standard: 1st letter/number of serial #: W=83, X=84, Y=85, S=86, B=87, C=88, D=89, E=90, F=91, G=92, H=93, J=94, K=95, L=96, M=97, N=98, P=99, R=00, Z=01 2=02, 3=03, 4=04, 5=05, 6=06, 7=07 Randy, Evap Coil is also '98. I've never had to use Preston's. [:-graduat
randynavarro Posted January 14, 2007 Author Report Posted January 14, 2007 Thanks Bill! No Prestons! Now thats interesting! Do you just have a massive library of all the mfg's technical info?
Bill Kibbel Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I have most of the info I need for stuff I regularly see. If not, I usually have a bookmark where I can find it on-line.
