hausdok Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 According to a September article in Residential Architect Online, more and more US architects are beginning to specify ventilated facades - basically a complex multilayer system (similar to a rainscreen) that creates a 3-inch to 7-inch air space around a building - for new construction. This is a system that home inspectors are going to need to become familiar with, in order to address it competently. To learn more click here.

kurt Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 I'm still trying to get an idea of how it's actually put together. From the description, it sort of sounds like empty studwalls, w/layers of sheathing on the exterior(?).
Brandon Chew Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Me too. I'm a visual learner. Anyone have a picture or a cross section diagram of this system?
hausdok Posted November 21, 2006 Author Report Posted November 21, 2006 Hi Brandon, I don't have time to find diagrams for you but this search string should put you in the ballpark: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Oa ... gle+Search ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike

I assume you mean for civilians. What do you think it says louder? A. Boy do I feel seriously inadequate about something. B. I have this kind of money to waste, so I do. I'm not terribly clear on what they're proposing either, but I'm automatically suspicious of anything complex. If the contractors have get a lot of details right for it to work...well, that ain't good (take EIFS for example). [:-indiffe Brian G. kurt Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 Wow. I'll leave the worthiness of the ventilated facades to others, but I think the buildings look really cool.
hausdok Posted March 31, 2007 Author Report Posted March 31, 2007 Very nice Denis, Wish I could drive my Subaru down to that cool looking Subaru dealership for service. It must have been pretty tough doing that job in all that snow. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
