dtontarski Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Is the gray device on the top of this panel some type of surge suppressor. How should this be correctly wired? This is on a Cutler Hammer Panel installed in 1976. Download Attachment: Surge Suppressor.jpg 203.17 KB
hausdok Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Hi, I'm not sure of the exact terminology but it's some kind of lightning arrestor, which, in essence, is a surge protector. OT - OF!!! M.
dtontarski Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 Thanks Mike. Is it o.k. to double tap it onto the main breaker terminals like this?
hausdok Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Yeah, I think so. I don't think I've ever seen one, but the question has been asked a lot here, on the ASHI forum, on Inspection News and on the NAHI and NACHI forums, and I think the answer has always been that it's okay. If I'm wrong, Jim Katen or someone from a more lightning-prone area will chime in and correct me. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
allspec33351 Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 I call it out as being wired improperly. http://elec-saver.com/Article_285.htm#singleUS Captain
