Les Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Deck shown is on 4yr old house. It was built in two stages and engineered by a skilled homeowner that is an engineer. This is one for a new inspector, so as to look like a hero! Photos were too big. Will post after resize!

MMustola Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Les, In Flint that would be considered well built! I'll bet it was the "builder's own house"
homnspector Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Seems like drywall screws are the latest duct tape / bailing wire answer to everything.
Chad Fabry Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I'm surprised there's no pool on the deck.
fqp25 Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 In regards to the picture; if he extended the deck over a little bit more, they would have an "escape landing" for that window. I'm going to guess that there was no permit pulled for this "structure".

chrisprickett Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 That's whack (as the kids say). I saw this thingy at the ITA conference. Never seen it before and it my help correct at least a couple of issues on the deck pictured: http://www.mtdecklok.com/
Jesse Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Here's another option. http://www.partnerusa.com/
Bain Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Check out this pier from yesterday morning's gig. A tiny quiver of dread wriggled through my heart as I walked across the deck, wondering if that would be the exact moment it decided to tumble to the ground. Scottpat Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Check out these steps from a house the other day. Builder built and city approved! Download Attachment: IMG_1948.JPG 145.11 KB Download Attachment: IMG_1947.JPG 132.6 KB
hausdok Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 That builder's momma must be so proud. OT - OF!!! M.
Brandon Chew Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Originally posted by Chad Fabry I'm surprised there's no pool on the deck. Pool or no pool, that deck needs a diving board! Scott - I bet that was the "fix" after he failed the first inspection for having that top riser a different height from the rest of the steps. "Yep, risers look good now!"
Charles Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Since we are sharing pictures here is one of my favorites. Hope the picture upload works. Charles
Inspectorjoe Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Just when I thought I'd seen it all, I'm proven wrong. Things weren't any better at the top. Kind of looks like it could have been used as a set in the movie "Jackass II.
